US Secretary of Defense visits Angola

Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of Defense of the United States of America (USA), Lloyd Austin, visits Angola next week, to strengthen cooperation and explore paths for greater military exchange between the two countries.

According to the “Pentagon” (headquarters of the US Ministry of Defense), the visit will focus on building stronger defense relations and exploring paths for greater military cooperation between the United States of America and Angola.

The visit to Angola is part of a tour of Africa, namely, which includes Djibouti and Kenya, with a view to highlighting the commitment of the US Department (Ministry) of Defense to strengthening partnerships and increasing regional security on the African continent.

This is the first visit by a US Secretary of Defense to Angola.

In April 2022, the Minister of State and Head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Furtado, met, in Washington, with the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, within the framework of bilateral cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, the two countries reaffirmed, in a Joint Declaration, their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of defense, continuing and celebrating the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding of May 17, 2017, between the Ministry of the National Defense of Angola and the Department of Defense of the United States of America.
