Africa-Press – Angola. The American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, expressed this Thursday, in Luanda, his country’s willingness to cooperate with Angola in the space domain to guarantee food security and reduce the negative impact of climate change.
The North American official, who was speaking during a visit to the Luanda Science Center (CCL), said that, within the scope of the Artemis Agreement, Angola is the third American partner, in Africa, for the peaceful use of space.
He informed that NASA is already working in Angola to collect information on soil quality and water waste management, to obtain data to improve seeds and strengthen food security.
Antony Blinken considered it essential that Africa guarantee its food security to avoid negative impacts such as those arising from the “Russian invasion of Ukraine”.
On the other hand, the American Secretary of State praised the investment in the construction of the Luanda Science Center (CCL), which he considered inspiring for new generations in choosing their professional options.
Located in an area of 17,667 square meters, the CCL is a space dedicated to the promotion of science, technology and innovation, located in the old soap factory, in the Baleizão area, in the country’s capital.
In addition to the exhibition rooms, with 278 modules, the equipment includes a planetarium, video mapping, cinema room, butterfly garden and secular house.
The planetarium is a celestial projection space, with projectors to explore the cosmos and the stars, while video mapping (with 8 projectors) allows you to analyze topics such as Angolan reality, the human body, planets, fauna and flora, as well as carry out experiments with soap bubbles and light refraction.
The cinema room has 146 seats, five of which have special effects, such as a sensation of vibration and wind, while the secular house shows the historic building of the soap factory, founded in 1925, with the equipment of that time.
