Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector of the province of Huambo, Angelino Elavoco, defended this Monday, greater promotion of investigative journalism, based on the law, ethical principles and professional deontology.

Angelino Elavoco, who was speaking at the opening of the training on “Investigative Journalism”, taking place over two days in Huambo, in an initiative of the Women Journalist Forum for Gender Equality, stated that the full exercise of this activity requires, above all, knowledge the limits of press freedom.

According to him, the promotion of democracy, transparency of the State and institutions must be important for journalists who embark on this type of activity, as they need to know the legally imposed limits.

In this way, he added, it will be possible to avoid crossing the line that separates press freedom from the principle of presumption of innocence.

“Investigative journalism, as it is specialized in the search for facts or knowledge that are outside the public domain, has gained space at national level, with increasing press freedom that is notable and irreversible, by arousing the interest of Angolan journalists, who must be trained to better exercise it”, he said.

The vice-governor congratulated the Forum for Women Journalists for Gender Equality, considering training as the key to improving knowledge and improving work tools and techniques, with a view to raising the quality of public service provision.

On this occasion, the general coordinator of the Forum for Women Journalists for Gender Equality, Ermelinda da Costa, informed that the training on “Investigative Journalism” aims to improve reporting techniques, to encourage its completion, mainly , on issues linked to social inclusion and human rights.

He said that the event also aims to encourage journalists to update their knowledge on ethical principles and professional deontology, as well as on matters linked to the Social Communication Legislative Package, the limits of the Press Law and the Journalist Statute.

The training action, which takes place in the auditorium of the provincial broadcaster of Rádio Nacional de Angola, is attended by the secretary-general of the Union of Angolan Journalists, Teixeira Cândido, as one of the speakers.

The Women Journalist Forum for Gender Equality is an Angolan civil society organization, which brings together women journalists from public and private media outlets, founded in 2009, with the aim of carrying out actions aimed at combating domestic and sexual violence. on gender, to respect women’s rights and, more broadly, to combat all forms of discrimination against women and promote gender equality.
