Vice-governor reiterates the role of Christian movements in achieving the country's independence

Africa-Press – Angola. The vice-governor of Cuando Cubango for the Political, Social and Economic sectors, Helena Chimena, recognized this Monday, in Menongue, the role played by Christian movements in the achievement of national independence, marked on November 11, 1975.

This position was expressed during the ecumenical event that marked the end of the days celebrating 48 years of National Independence, marked with the inauguration of several social facilities in the province of Cuando Cubango.

Helena Chimena highlighted that today’s Angolan nation is the result of the actions developed by Christian movements and also of the theological and educational thoughts obtained by the leaders of the National Liberation Movements, which led to the conquest and proclamation of National Independence.

He recalled that the history of Angola is full of achievements that are due, above all, to the efforts of fearless Angolans, who ignored the difficulties imposed by the colonial regime, contributing, each at their own level, and at specific times, to the liberation of the country. .

“The church is a privileged partner of the State, therefore, it must continue with its mission of promoting the moralization of society, the rescue of civic and patriotic values, with a view to building a society united in the ideals of love for others, fraternity and brotherhood, to build a better society for all”, he highlighted.

For his part, the delegate of the prophetic church in Cuando Cubnago, pastor Alfredo Zambi Passos, recognized that independence opened safe paths for the continued expansion of the gospel, since there is greater openness and freedom both in the use of the Portuguese language and also in use of other natives, a fact that did not happen before independence was achieved.

He expressed his readiness to continue working in partnership with the government to help resolve community problems, especially education, health and agricultural production.
