Video surveillance contributes to crime prevention in Benguela

Africa-Press – Angola. The video surveillance system is allowing the prevention, control and clarification of crimes in the province of Benguela, said, this Tuesday, the local commander of the National Police, Commissioner Aristófanes dos Santos.

According to the official commissioner, in Luanda, of his most recent work, entitled “Video surveillance within the scope of criminal prevention”, the use of advanced technology in the real-time monitoring system, with cameras video surveillance, has also allowed the rapid arrest of criminals.

Aristófanes dos Santos considers that it (video surveillance) also allowed the frustration of several attempts at criminal acts on public roads, with emphasis on robberies, thefts, sexual abuse, physical assaults and others.

For him, the implementation of the CISP Integrated Public Security Center was positive, as it brought significant improvements in the field of public security in the province and allowed, with the different security bodies, a more effective and coordinated response to emergency situations and crime.

Data from CISP Benguela

The commander informed that, at Benguela level, 102 cameras, five mobile police stations with a monitoring system and two monoblocks are installed on the main avenues in the cities of Benguela, Catumbela and Lobito.

The system in the province of Benguela, he said, is implemented as a national backup and can take over in the event of a blackout.

In the first quarter of this year, CISP terminal 111 received 135,180 calls, of which 3,019 were valid and 132,161 were invalid, 839 from criminal forums, 221 from traffic, 50 from criminal investigations and 76 from civil protection and firefighters.

During this period, the CISP recorded 210 robberies, 133 attempted robberies, 164 attacks on physical integrity, 57 cases of feud between groups, in addition to 31 vehicles being blacklisted.

Aristófanes dos Santos considers that the video surveillance system constitutes a complementary instrument for preventive and reactive police activity, with a strong deterrent effect on the practice of certain criminal offenses and anti-social conduct, to improve the population’s feeling of security.

The provincial commander considers that the video surveillance system has demonstrated effectiveness in preventing and combating crime, strictly respecting the individual rights and privacy of citizens and is of the opinion that the project should be extended to other parts of the province and the country.

He defended, on the other hand, continued investment in the training of security agents and the modernization of the equipment used, in order to ensure that the CISP-Benguela continues to be an effective tool in promoting public security in the province.
