Africa-Press – Angola. The Golden State Warriors, led by Andrew Wiggins, ‘decimated’ the Boston Celtics in the fourth period, to win, on Monday, the fifth game of the final by 104-94 and stay one victory away from the NBA title.
In San Francisco, Steve Kerr’s ‘five’ came on strong (24-8) and reached the break leading by 12 points (51-39), but, unlike the first four meetings – plus 49 points in total -, he lost clearly the third period (24-35).
Even so, a ‘triple’ from Jordan Poole on the ‘bu-zina’ allowed the Warriors to turn in front (75-74) and set the tone for a great last period for the locals, who opened with 10-0 (85-74). ) and never let the Celtics get close again.
The hosts’ feat is even more significant considering that Stephen Curry, who scored 43 points in the fourth game, almost didn’t count: he stayed for 16 and no ‘triple’ (missed nine), after 233 games, between regular season and ‘play-offs’, with at least one – has not been ‘blank’ since 8 November 2018.
With Curry ‘out’, albeit with eight assists, he led Andrew Wiggins, who ended the match with 26 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and two steals, seconded by Klay Thompson, with 21 points, including five ‘triples’.
Also noteworthy are the 31 points from the bench, largely due to Gary Payton II, who scored 15, and Jordan Poole, who scored 14.
In the Celtics, Jayson Tatum, with 27 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, was the best, followed by Marcus Smart, with 20, while Jaylen Brown , very uninspired, scored 18, but with five of 18 in the triples.
The final ends tomorrow, if the Warriors won in Boston, or on Sunday, the day scheduled for the seventh game, the ‘black’, in San Francisco.
