Africa-Press – Angola. Judoka Wesley George, from the municipality of Cuanhama, won this Monday, the first edition of the children’s judo tournament, called “Liga dos Kandengues”, in Cunene province, by beating his teammate, Romano Gabriel.

In the League, at 35 kg, Gabriel Cristóvão triumphed over Jaime Jamba, from the core of Xangongo, while at 50 kg, Clemente Ndala was crowned champion, over Fernando Nandinho, both from Xangongo.

The competition, which aimed to salute the day of the African Child, marked on the 16th of June, had the participation of 20 judokas, from four schools in the municipalities of Cuanhama, with two, Ombadja, one, and an equal number, in Namacunde.

These are the schools of willpower, Staff of Primos and the nucleus of Santa-Clara and Xangongo, as he made known.

On the occasion, the chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Cunene Judo Association, Wilson Fernandes, said that these are individual and team fights, divided into stages of the first League, from 7 to 8, second, from 9 to 10, and third, from 10 to 14 years old.

The sports director highlighted the competitive level shown by the athletes during the competition, especially in the cadet category, as a breeding ground for the sport.

“We had a very satisfactory competitive level here, which demonstrates the work and commitment of the athletes to increasingly improve their technical and tactical skills, as positive indicators for the development of judo in the region”, he said.

Wilson Fernandes also highlighted the advantages of the modality known as the art of gentleness, discipline and changing the practitioners’ consciousness.

Judo is a fighting modality, whose main objectives are to strengthen the body, mind and spirit in an integrated way, in addition to developing self-defense techniques.

The Cunene Provincial Judo Association controls seven schools and a club, as well as 328 athletes, in the municipalities of Cuanhama, Ombadja and Namacunde.
