Africa-Press – Angola. The national women’s futsal team lost to Cameroon by 3-1, in the third place match of the first edition of the African Nations Championship, which ended yesterday in Rabat, Morocco. The national team, considered the favourites, started the game well, attacking with controlled ball and accurate passes, giving the opponent no chance.
Djamila, Joyce and Beu were the mirror of the national team’s attacking maneuvers, constantly causing imbalance in the Cameroonian defense, but lacking in finishing. The physically stronger Cameroonians tried to exploit quick counterattacks and direct plays, but came up against the cohesive tactical organization of the Angolan team. Lurdinha and Djamila, whenever possible, risked long-range shots, but failed to hit the target, largely thanks to the opposing goalkeeper.
In the second half, the Welsh maintained control of the game, forcing the Cameroonians to commit fouls to stop the Angolan team’s attacking momentum. However, a bucket of cold water fell on the national team when, in the 27th minute, Elam opened the scoring for Cameroon in a direct play. The team did not give up and went in search of an equalizer, which came in the 36th minute through Dionísia, after an assist from Beu. When everything indicated a possible turnaround in the score, a lack of attention from the Angolan defense allowed Mbomozomo to shoot powerfully in the 37th minute, making it 2-1.
Seeing the disadvantage on the scoreboard, coach Nandinho Rosário took a risk, taking off the goalkeeper to gain numerical superiority in attack. Unfortunately, the strategy did not work, as Cameroon scored two more goals, again by Elam in the 38th minute and, shortly after, by Beulou in the 39th minute, setting the score at 4-1, to the joy of the Cameroonian team. In the final, Morocco beat Tanzania 3-2 and won the title. The winning goal came in the last minute.
