Sebego Joins FIFA Appeals Committee

Africa-Press – Botswana. Former Botswana Football Association (BFA) president Tebogo Sebego has been appointed to FIFA Appeals Committee.

Sebego revealed in an interview that he was roped in during the 2025 FIFA general assembly May meeting and would serve for four years.

He said the committee’s role was to hear appeals against decisions from disciplinary committees and the ethics committee that were not declared final by the relevant FIFA regulations.

He said the mandate was to also ensure that all the federations complied with FIFA statutes.

Sebego said they were also tasked with ensuring that fairness and justice in football prevailed, adding that key mandate was to protect the integrity of football. He said normally FIFA Appeals Committee comprised law experts with football knowledge.

Sebego’s rich profile couples him as a lawyer, football background, having had some time on the pitch and served in different committees including the disciplinary committee.

I was once BFA legal advisor until I was elected BFA president, he said.

Sebego, who had also served in the FIFA marketing committee, was of the view that football leadership found it prudent to give him a nod to serve at the FIFA Appeals Committee

BFA president, Tariq Babitseng celebrated Sebego’s appointment and said it was not just a personal achievement but a milestone for Botswana football.

“It puts us on the global decision-making map, strengthens our voice in international football governance, and opens doors for more Batswana to contribute at the highest levels of the game,” he said.

He said BFA would work with Sebego to leverage his position to bring opportunities, knowledge, and influence back to Botswana football structures.
