Africa-Press – Botswana. The BDF Athletics Club Half Marathon scheduled for Sunday in Mogoditshane is back and has this time around secured more sponsors.

BDF Athletics Club vice chairperson Alfred Phinias said in an interview that they were happy that more sponsors had come on board.

He said the last edition of the marathon, struggled to attract sponsors despite the event being for a good cause.

“We currently have two families in Mogoditshane and this will be our second year with them. Generally the marathon is used to benefit the community,” he said.

Phinias said they expected a good number of international athletes to compete and noted that they were expecting some from Kenya, Namibia, Zimabwe and South Africa.

He said their target was to register at least 2 000 runners, and that late registration opens today until Friday.

Phinias therefore encouraged those who had not registered to do so at Choppies store at SSKB. Registration fee for 5km is P150, 10km is P250, while 21km is P300, and corporate registration for 10 people stands at P2,250.

Winner of 21.1 km pockets P10,000, position two gets P6,000 while position three pockets P4,000, Those in positions four and five will receive P2,500 and P1,500 respectively.
