Africa-Press – Botswana. Assistant Minister of Communications and Innovation, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile has told delegates at the ongoing Botswana Tech Summit & Expo 2025 in Gaborone that the country is accelerating its digital transformation with bold initiatives.

He cited progress on the Digital Citizens Bill and Cybersecurity Bill, both set to enhance digital services, protect data, and encourage innovation.

He mentioned that Botswana was finalising its National AI Policy to harness artificial intelligence in healthcare, agriculture, education, and governance, while safeguarding ethical use.

He also said this year, Botswana launched its first satellite, a step toward becoming Southern Africa’s digital hub.

“The government is promoting homegrown AI solutions for local challenges, investing in broadband for rural schools and clinics, and partnering with global tech firms to create digital jobs,” he said.

Mr Ntlhaile also said these developments aligned with the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme, aimed at diversifying the economy and positioning Botswana as a leader in the African digital frontier.

The event has brought together government, industry players and innovators to explore AI, cybersecurity, green tech, health tech, space innovation; all aimed at driving Botswana’s digital and economic transformation.

The event is being held the theme: Technology as the Engine of National Transformation.
