Africa-Press – Botswana. Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe says the Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) examinations marking was conducted both conventionally and electronically (e-marking).
Addressing a press conference following the release of the BGCSE examinations results on Friday, Dr Letsholathebe said the advent of e-marking presented an adoption of digitisation of the assessment system and a shift in mindset by the education system.
Dr Letsholathebe said a total of 32 components of the 2023 BGCSE examinations were marked electronically compared to nine in 2022, showing the success of e-marking.
“The shift was also viewed as an opportunity to move towards fully integrating e-assessments within examinations,†he said.
He added that the benefits of e-marking included, among others, increased efficiency with less time taken on processing of the results and elimination of human errors.
Again, he said e-marking provided more data for analysis to inform different assessment processes.
“The ministry pledges to continue to improve both curriculum delivery and its assessment to ensure that results improve markedly, he said.
