Africa-Press – Botswana. Bokamoso Private Hospital and Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BOMRA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the reporting of adverse drug reactions on patients.

The hospital’s superintendent, Dr Gontle Moleele said the collaboration was intended to enhance the monitoring and evaluation of medication safety.

She said they partnered with BOMRA to contribute to the improvement of drug safety and to enable healthcare professionals at the hospital to report adverse drug reactions promptly thereby ensuring that necessary action was taken to prevent potential harm to patients.

For his part, BOMRA’s Dr Parthasarathi Gurumurthy said the organisation played a crucial role in ensuring the safety, efficacy and quality of medications in the country. He said through the partnership their pharmacovigilance system would be strengthened through receiving comprehensive and reliable information on adverse drug reactions directly from the hospital

He added that the collaboration was expected to have a positive impact on patient care and medication safety, and that by sharing information and working together healthcare professionals and regulatory authorities could identify patterns and trends in adverse drug reactions leading to improved understanding of drug reactions and the development of targeted interventions.

He said the two were committed to ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and healthcare delivery, and that the agreement signified their dedication to collaborative efforts in monitoring and reporting adverse drug reactions.

The hospital and BOMRA also unveiled an adverse drug reaction monitoring centre that was sponsored by BOMRA.
