Botswana Ash Pty Ltd, widely known as Botash, has strengthened this effort through a major donation to schools in the Tutume Sub Region. The mining company recently donated two multipurpose photocopying and printing machines along with a supply of notebooks for learners. The donation has a total value of P760000 and aims to address practical challenges that schools face when preparing learning materials. The two multipurpose photocopying and printing machines were allocated to Nxakato Junior Secondary School and Madawu Junior Secondary School. These machines will help teachers produce essential classroom materials such as worksheets, tests and examination papers. At the same time Dukwi Junior Secondary School received notebooks for Form One and Form Two learners to support daily academic work. Access to basic learning materials remains a challenge in several schools, particularly in areas where resources are limited. By providing these materials Botash is helping to improve the day to day learning environment for both teachers and students.
The official handover ceremony took place at Nxakato Junior Secondary School in Sowa Town. During the event the Assistant Minister for Child Welfare and Basic Education, Hon Justin Hunyepa, expressed strong appreciation for the donation. He explained that reliable printing and photocopying facilities are often difficult to access in many schools across the country. Without these resources teachers struggle to prepare sufficient learning materials for their classes. The minister said the equipment will significantly improve the efficiency of lesson preparation and contribute to stronger academic performance among learners in the region.
Hon Justin Hunyepa also emphasized that the support from Botash and its partners will strengthen teaching and learning outcomes. He explained that in 2023 the mine began assessing challenges faced by schools located within its surrounding communities. One of the most common problems identified was the lack of reliable photocopying and printing facilities. This shortage had a direct impact on classroom instruction because teachers could not easily reproduce learning materials. The company responded by launching a programme specifically designed to improve access to these essential educational tools.
Mr Seokamo noted that several schools located within the company’s zone of influence have already benefited from the programme. Dukwi Junior Secondary School is among the institutions that previously received support through the initiative. The latest donation therefore represents a continuation of Botash’s long term commitment to supporting education in nearby communities. According to the company, improving access to educational resources helps strengthen the broader social environment in which the mine operates. Mr Seokamo expressed appreciation to Nashua, the service provider responsible for the photocopying and printing machines. In addition to supplying the equipment Nashua donated twenty boxes of printing paper for each school receiving a machine.
