Botswana Launches Digital Delta Data Centre for Growth

Africa-Press – Botswana. Minister for State President Moeti Mohwasa, representing President Duma Boko, officially launched the Digital Delta Data Centre (DDDC). The Tier III state-of-the-art data infrastructure is positioned as a key enabler of the newly unveiled National Development Plan 12 (NDP 12).

Hon. Mohwasa emphasized the importance of data-driven decision making. “We want government decisions to rely on accurate data, and this requires modern systems and tools. Robust ICT infrastructure like DDDC is critical to NDP 12. It will help us serve the public efficiently and deliver services effectively,” he said.

The Minister described DDDC as a symbol of national pride and progress. He highlighted the centre’s role in supporting the Botswana Economic Transformation Plan (BETP) and the Digital Transformation Strategy already underway.

Hon. Mohwasa also acknowledged Botswana Fibre Networks (BOFINET), responsible for constructing the centre. He noted that the project created several jobs during construction. “As the centre expands services, we anticipate further positive impacts on job creation, particularly for youth, who face significant employment challenges,” he said.

Communications and Innovation Minister David Tshere stressed government commitment to making ICT services affordable, accessible, and reliable for all citizens. He said DDDC reflects a shared vision to make Botswana a digital powerhouse in the SADC region. Minister Tshere added that the government intends to digitize all essential services, including national identity applications, to enhance efficiency and accessibility.

BOFINET Acting CEO Keabetswe Segole noted the centre’s importance for national data security. “With DDDC, Batswana can be confident their data is protected. In the era of cyber threats, safeguarding data has become a national priority,” he said.

The launch of DDDC marks a major step in Botswana’s digital transformation. The facility is expected to strengthen ICT infrastructure, support national development goals, and create long-term employment opportunities while ensuring secure and reliable digital services for all citizens.
