Africa-Press – Botswana. The Botswana Football Association (BFA) hosted a spirited send-off dinner for the national football team, The Zebras, ahead of their journey to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. This marks Botswana’s second-ever AFCON qualification and their first since 2012, making it a historic moment for the nation’s football community.
BFA President Oabile Thona Babitseng described the event as a “celebration of resilience, belief and the identity” of The Zebras. Addressing the squad, he urged the players, who will first attend a training camp in Tunis, to “move as one, fight as one and leave nothing behind.” He also announced significant financial incentives for the players, revealing that contributions from partners and sponsors already exceed P600,000, with more funds expected to directly support player welfare. In addition, Babitseng launched the Zebras Day initiative, encouraging Batswana to buy and wear official Zebras t-shirts every Friday to raise funds for the team.
The keynote address was delivered by the Minister of Sport and Arts, Honourable Jacob Kelebeng. He stated, “Botswana is back. Team Zebras is back. And we are going to give our opponents the toughest time.” He emphasized that the squad carries the dreams of the entire nation and embodies Botswana’s humility, courage, and unity. The Minister expressed full government support for the team and commended the technical expertise of Coach Morena Ramoreboli and his staff, urging the players to write a new story of courage and belief for Botswana.
BNSC Chairman Marumo Morule echoed the same message, highlighting the importance of discipline, humility, and heart. He called on all Batswana to wear team colors and spread positivity, showing national pride and unity.
Head Coach Morena Ramoreboli officially announced the traveling squad, including players and technical staff, ahead of the team’s departure. The squad will first train in Tunis before heading to Morocco to face their AFCON opponents.
The event reflected a nation united behind The Zebras, celebrating their achievement while instilling confidence and determination in the squad. Fans are encouraged to support the team with pride, discipline, and honor as Botswana competes on the continental stage.
Go Zebras, compete with courage and make the nation proud.
