Africa-Press – Botswana. Childline Botswana has raised alarm over the increasing cases of child abuse, with a focus on the girl child. The organisation shared its concerns during the ongoing 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a campaign aimed at addressing violence and promoting protection for vulnerable groups.
Counsellor Motheo Dilelo stated that more children under 18 are seeking assistance for physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, as well as neglect. She highlighted that many victims face abuse from trusted adults or family members, which makes it harder for them to speak out and access support.
Childline Botswana emphasises early intervention and accessible reporting channels to protect children. The organisation encourages parents, guardians, and community members to be vigilant, listen to children, and respond promptly to signs of abuse.
The rise in reported cases underscores the need for strengthened awareness and preventive measures. Counsellors urge schools, communities, and authorities to work together in providing safe spaces and guidance for children.
Childline Botswana continues to provide counselling, support, and advocacy for affected children, calling for national action to address the root causes of abuse and protect the most vulnerable.
