Africa-Press – Botswana. Francistown Men Sector has set the ball in motion for the formation of the boys sector.
Speaking during regional committees’s conference recently, the secretary, Mr Nelson Molapi, said already they were on the implementation stage, hoping that the boys sector would be up and running before end of year.
He stated that the boys sector would be established in schools, starting from primary to senior level.
Nevertheless, Mr Molapi stated that the process could be done swiftly if it was not for lack funds and support from the private sector.
The president of Montsamaisa Junior Secondary School Student Representative Council, Mr Prince Majakoba, acknowledged that the boys sector would be of benefit to them as students.
He stated that young boys were often hard hit by challenges that affected their academic and social life.
He further stated that priority had always been on the girl-child, with the boy-child often neglected.
Mr Majakoba also pleaded for the return of sport programmes in schools saying they kept students busy, away from mischief and delinquency.
On the other hand, the National Gender Commissioner at the Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs, Mr Onkokame Mosweu, stated that the agendas driven by the men sector were important and that they would ensure that formation of boys sector became a reality.
He also pledged support to the agenda driven by the Francistown Men Sector, adding that meeting the organisation half way should not only be financial.
For his part, Francistown mayor, Mr Gaone Majere commended the men sector for their role especially during the time when the country was dealing with alarming cases of gender-based violence.
