Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Police Service (BPS), recorded an increase in Gender Based Violence (GBV) over the just ended President’s holidays.
According to their latest statistics, there was an increase of 25% in the total recorded cases with 57 GBV related ones compared to 44 for the same period in 2024.
Murder cases accounted to 5 compared to 4 last year, rape totalled 21 cases compared to 18 in 2024. On other matters, defilement and threats to kill accounted to 13 and 18 reported cases respectively. Regarding road policing, the police reveal seven fatal accidents leading 8 deaths. This is in comparison to five fatal accidents that led to six deaths in 2024.
“The overall number of road accidents recorded countrywide increased from 235 in 2024 to 321 this year. A total of 30 people sustained serious injuries whilst 50 suffered minor ones,” the police further. On other issues, the Police continue to caution and implore Batswana to resolve conflict peacefully or seek professional help from relevant authorities.
