Africa-Press – Botswana. Tempers flared in Parliament this morning when Thamaga/Kumakwane legislator, Palelo Mataosane, was ordered out of the house following a heated exchange with the Deputy Speaker Hellen Manyeneng.
Mataosane accused the Deputy Speaker of bias and claimed she was deliberately sabotaging what he referred to as the “BDP 4.” Tensions escalated when Mataosane refused to switch off his microphone despite repeated calls to do so. “You are pressing the wrong button and I will take you head on,” shouted Mataosane. “I am not going to be bullied in Parliament. You are biased. A seka a nthoga, I am not switching off the mic!” Visibly irritated, the Deputy Speaker responded, “Emisa go ntlhasela ka mafoko a senang nnete. O re ga nke ke le supa. Ga ke itse the ‘BDP 4’ you speak of.” Still defiant, Mataosane shot back: “Oa ntlhasela!” Manyeneng then took a firmer stance, telling him, “Your behaviour is unbecoming in this house. Lenyatso leo le ntirelang ere ke bua, abo o hetola. Ga ke le bate. O o nnyatsa.” Mataosane accused the Deputy Speaker of treating him unfairly: “O ntsaya ka letsogo la Molema.” The Deputy Speaker fired the parting shot: “When you come late to Parliament, please ask your colleagues who was given the floor before you arrived.” Mataosane was then asked to leave the chamber.
