Africa-Press – Botswana. The dinner to welcome participants of the 2025 Sub Regional World Children’s Day brought together more than 200 children from nine African states. They shared one message and asked leaders to respect their rights, protect them and listen to their voices. Their unity showed how strongly they feel about safety and dignity. Their message also highlighted the growing need for meaningful youth participation in regional conversations.
First Lady Kaone Boko told the children and guests that leaders must recommit to child welfare. She said real effort is needed to create environments where children feel safe and valued. She urged governments to move beyond speeches and deliver clear actions that can be measured. She said accountability must guide every step taken in support of children.
She said the best legacy for any child is a world that protects their innocence. She said children deserve places where their rights are upheld and where they feel included. She added that children should grow in environments that strengthen their confidence and potential. She said this vision must shape policies and programs across the region.
She thanked the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education, UNICEF and all partners who made the celebration possible. She said their involvement showed real commitment to improving children’s lives. She also said shared dedication can produce long term progress across communities. She encouraged stakeholders to continue working together with purpose.
She closed with a call to act with intent. She said love for children should guide future decisions and investments. She encouraged leaders to move from promises to action and deliver visible change. She said children deserve nothing less.
