Africa-Press – Botswana. As the 2025/26 First Division league approaches its kickoff, Majweng Sporting Club is working to overcome challenges and prepare for their inaugural appearance in the division.

The club, based in Molepolole, recently made history by advancing from the lower division as champions, marking a significant milestone for the team.

The club’s management is committed to ensuring they are fully equipped to face seasoned opponents such as Notwane SC when the season begins.

Public Relations Officer, Boago Koontse, emphasised the ongoing efforts to secure sponsorships necessary for their upgraded level of competition.

“We have engaged several companies, but the high costs associated with football make sponsorship a tough pursuit. Many sponsors tend to establish their own clubs these days,” he explained.

Currently, negotiations are underway with potential sponsors, with whispers in the camp suggesting that local sportswear company ‘Dlala’ is in talks to provide apparel for the team. However, no formal agreement has been finalized yet.

In addition to sponsorship efforts, the team’s scouting department is actively seeking new talent to bolster their squad. Koontse revealed plans to recruit at least six new players, emphasizing confidence in the current team’s ability to handle the demands of the league.

“We believe our existing squad is capable, but we’re open to strengthening our ranks,” he stated.

The club is also awaiting feedback from teams that loaned players to Majweng last season, including Thapelo ‘Schedule’ Balatlheng from Township Rollers, Abado Ramerafe from VTM, Obert Motlhabane from Molepolole City FC, Abi Ramodiane, and Onkgopotse Tshimako from BDF XI.

Koontse expressed hope that these players will rejoin the team for the upcoming campaign.

As of now, no players have been transferred or loaned out, and no new signings have been announced. The technical department, however, has completed its personnel restructuring.

Head Coach Zachariah Mudzazi has been supported by assistant coaches Monageng Nthaele, a former Township Rollers and Extension Gunners player, and Mokwadi ‘Squad’ Kebinatau, a former Majweng player promoted from within the club.

Furthermore, former Mochudi Centre Chiefs goalkeeper Mompoloki Wrist Sephekolo has been brought in to mentor the team’s goalkeepers, ensuring they are well-prepared for the season.

Pre-season preparations are scheduled to commence next week, as the season is set to kick off in September.

Interestingly, the team plans to continue using their usual playing grounds rather than the stadium, aiming to foster stronger local fan engagement and attract potential sponsor support.

Koontse also revealed that new team replicas are currently on their way, promising fresh merchandise for supporters and fans alike.

As Majweng Sporting Club steps into a new era, the club’s management remains optimistic and dedicated to making a strong showing in the upcoming league campaign amid the numerous challenges ahead.
