Africa-Press – Botswana. Mmadinare community will hold a cultural event on August 15 to revive, celebrate and preserve cultural practices and traditions.

In an interview, the chairperson of the Mmadinare cultural event, Modise Motshegwa, emphasised that cultural practices were the threads that distinguished different tribes and nurture a sense of identity and belonging within communities.

He highlighted the importance of organising activities that continuously preserve and protect these cultural practices.

Through the cultural event, Motshegwa noted that the community would reconnect with their ancestry and appreciate their roots.

He added that the event would also serve as a ground for the upcoming generation to delve into their heritage, encouraging personal growth and contributing to the collective enhancement of society.

Motshegwa pointed out that many cultural traditions faced the threat of erosion; hence, the Mmadinare cultural event was an essential initiative to revive cultural pride, awareness and appreciation of identity.

“Cultural practices transcend customs, they are the threads that weave our community together.

They shape our character and influence social norms, giving a sense of belonging and purpose and helping us understand our place within our tribes,” he stated.

Motshegwa also noted the importance of active participation and contributions to ensure the event’s success, noting that preserving cultural activities should be a collective responsibility since culture legacies should be passed down to the future generations.

The event will feature an array of activities, including traditional performances, storytelling, showcasing traditional attire and dishes, and providing participants with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the essence of heritage amongst others.

Motshegwa highlighted the inclusive nature of the festival, encouraging other tribes to participate and showcase their cultural vibrancy at the same event.

He said this would embody unity and inclusivity, surpass cultural differences, while also strengthen community bonds and enhancing understanding of the diverse cultural tapestry within Mmadinare village.
