Africa-Press – Botswana. Tlokweng District Council has been allocated P3.75 million through the Road Fund Levy for maintenance of internal roads and district upkeep.
Addressing a full council meeting Monday, the council chairperson, Mr Collen Mochotlhi said the works would be centered on pothole patching, vegetation control, road sweeping, desilting culverts, grading, replacement of damaged road furniture, renewal of road markings and street lighting.
Mr Mochotlhi said the 25km internal road construction project, which started in June, was progressing well with conditions survey ongoing since July.
He said assessment was expected to be completed in six to 12 months to avoid delays which could impact on the project schedule.
The council has also set aside over P300 million for the internal road construction project which has been awarded to Asphalt Botswana.
The project, estimated to be complete within a two-year time frame, includes construction of 25km bitumen roads, incorporating essential features such as storm water drainage system and solar lightning.
Briefing the meeting on project implementation, Mr Mochotlhi regretted that the council had not done well on its promise to deliver planned projects timely.
“A good number of our projects are behind time and mostly from the previous financial year. Addressing the critical issue of poor project implementation is of paramount importance as we strive for progress. The adverse effects of this challenge on our development efforts is undeniable,” he said.
On other development projects, Mr Mochotlhi said phase two of the recreational park was also behind schedule and had been awarded extension until September.
He said tenders for supply and delivery of all in one solar street lighting fittings and galvanized steel street light poles had been awarded.
He said implementation of the Ipelegeng skills development component was ongoing with the implementation of two destitute house projects.
