Africa-Press – Botswana. The national swimming team is back home from Angola where it competed in the CANA Zone IV championships.

Botswana won 20 medals: four gold, five silver and 11 bronze.

The team manager, Puni Gaetsewe, said in an interview that Botswana did well considering the bad weather, adding it was hot and humid.

She, however, said in addition to winning the medals, some athletes recorded their personal best (PB)

She said the good performance was attributed to team work amongst the swimmers, adding that some were making their international debut, so they were made comfortable by those who had experience.

“The newbies were fully guided and I am happy the spirit was high from day one, every day when we had our reflections we would analyse our performance and move forward,” Gaetsewe said.

She also thanked parents, whom she said played a pivotal role in supporting their children whilst competing in Angola.

“Parents were in touch with their children and that alone helped, given that they kept on motivating them.

So, it will be reminisce of us to celebrate this feat without appreciating parents,” Gaetsewe said.
