Africa-Press – Botswana. Teachers occupying all institutional houses within and outside the school campuses in the Greater Gaborone area enjoy subsidised rental rates compared to the market rates.
Answering a question in Parliament recently, the Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Ms Nono Kgafela-Mokoka said consequently, the ministry was unable to subsidies rental rates for teachers living in the Greater Gaborone. She said subsidising of teachers’ accommodation related to conditions of service for all teachers throughout the country and as such they cannot have operational inconsistencies.
The minister was responding to a question from Mogoditshane East MP, Mr Letlhogonolo Barongwang who had asked the Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education if government will consider subsidising rentals for teachers living in the Greater Gaborone area so as to alleviate severe shortage accommodation while awaiting the implementation of the housing scheme.
