Africa-Press – Botswana. The United States surpassed the mark of 100 million cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, thus becoming the first country to surpass nine digits.
The authorities of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, its acronym in English) announced on Friday that the mark was exceeded on the 2nd, thus becoming the country with the most cases and with the most deaths from the virus in the whole the world.
According to the CDC website, more than 487,000 new cases were registered last week and 2,952 deaths from the disease.
The graphs presented by the health authority show a clear rise in the pandemic in the country, at a time when several epidemiologists have warned of the impact of winter and the absence of any preventive measures in the increase in cases.
In total, the United States has registered, since the beginning of the pandemic, 100,216,983 cases of Covid-19. 1,086,197 people died and more than 45 million have already taken the vaccine booster.
Furthermore, the actual number of cases is still not being correctly counted, as many people end up not being tested and others, having had several doses of the vaccine, may become infected but remain asymptomatic (something that is not unique to the US). .
ABC News adds that between February 2020 and September 2021, the CDC estimates that only one in four infections were recorded, so the 146 million case mark may have been reached by then.
