Cely Fortes, 58, died in a private clinic after feeling unwell, as family members told Inforpress.

Marcelina Fortes, known as Cely Fortes, was the daughter of Carnival activist and president of Grupo Carnavalesco Vindos do Oriente, Lili d’Chala, who died on January 22, 2022.

About a year after the mother’s death

Cely’s death comes about a year and a month after the physical disappearance of her mother Lili d’Chala, a figure from Mindelo who stood out as a promoter of culture and sport, among other areas, in São Vicente, and who should be honored at the beginning of the official Carnival parade scheduled for Tuesday.

Yesterday, Sunday, he participated in a report on TCV’s Jornal de Domingo where he honored his mother.

Cely Fortes was also the sister of Josina Fortes, elected member of the São Vicente circle on the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) list.

In addition to Carnival, she promoted women’s football in São Vicente, having played for Club Sportivo Mindelense.
