Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Education, Amadeu Cruz, announced this Sunday, the 29th, in Praia, that Fogo Island will host the fifth edition of the School Sports Olympics in 2027.
“We have decided that the fifth edition of the School Sports Olympics, in 2027, will be on Fogo Island,” said the minister, in statements to the press during the closing ceremony of the fourth edition of the ODE’2026, indicating that institutional contacts have already begun to prepare the event.
According to the minister, the government has already spoken with the municipalities, which have improved the infrastructure and provided the island with the conditions to host the ODE in 2027.
He added that the volcanic island has sports and educational infrastructure, including a municipal swimming pool.
Amadeu Cruz also said that a dialogue has begun with entities linked to transport logistics, with a view to ensuring the necessary conditions for holding the Olympics on the island.
On the same occasion, the governor gave a “positive assessment of the 2026 edition” and highlighted the involvement of young people from the qualifying phases in schools to the final phase, which brought together around a thousand participants in the city of Praia.
Cruz emphasized that the initiative mobilized Cape Verdean youth around sport, education, and camaraderie among the islands.
The minister recalled that the project was launched in 2022 and that the 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 editions have already taken place, expressing the desire for continuity with the holding of the fifth edition in 2027.
