From the 16th to the 19th of March, the city of Praia will host the Conference of the African Committee of the IUSY (International Union of Socialist Youths), an event that will bring to Cape Verde about 25 young leaders from different countries of the African continent to participate in discussions to the around the central theme of this conference: “Democracy in Africa”.
This international magna meeting brought to Cape Verde by the PAICV Youth, as a member, will be attended by delegations made up of young people from Angola, Burkina Faso, Morocco, South Africa, Equatorial Guinea, Tunisia, Republic of Congo, Central Republic African, Mali, Swaziland, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gambia.
A milestone for JPAI
In a press conference held last weekend, the president of JPAI, Fidel Cardoso de Pina advanced that this conference is a historic milestone for this organization and for the country.
“Cape Verde is a country considered to be in good democratic health, recognized in our continent and the world. This is one of the main reasons why we were chosen as hosts for this conference”, he explained, referring that despite the gains, democracy in the archipelago still has its challenges.
Debating challenges of African democracy
On the other hand, considering that this event will discuss democracy in the continent, Fidel Cardoso de Pina stressed that “we cannot disregard some democratic realities that still persist in several countries in our continent”.
Therefore, he stresses that taking into account the challenges of democracy on the continent, “it will be challenging for us, that as young political leaders we can debate this issue from the perspective of shared experience of the realities of our countries”.
Three panel discussions
The IUSY African Committee Conference from March 16th to 19th, in one of the hotels in the city of Praia, will have three speakers, namely, the vice-presidents of the Socialist International, Janira Hopffer Almada and Hana Jalloul, as well as the parliamentary leader and deputy -president of the PAICV, João Baptista Pereira.
These will present different panels around the central theme of this conference, whose program also includes institutional visits.
