Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Health Specialties and Partners Fair takes place this Tuesday at the Sete Sóis Sete Luas Cultural Center in Ribeira Grande, bringing together professionals and institutions in an initiative focused on health promotion.

In statements to Inforpress, the Health Delegate of Ribeira Grande, Florentina Lima e Lima, explained that the activity is part of the Delegation’s health promotion plan, one of the fundamental pillars of primary care.

According to her, in addition to treatment and rehabilitation, health promotion plays an “essential role,” focusing on prevention, information, and the adoption of healthy lifestyles by the population.

“The fair also integrates the celebrations of World Health Day, marked this month under the motto ‘Together for Health and Support for Science,’ a global initiative promoted in conjunction with the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization, and the National Institute of Social Security,” she said.

According to the delegate, the event aims to highlight the role of science in promoting and protecting health, reinforcing the idea that health is transversal and not the exclusive responsibility of professionals in the sector.

“All sectors must be committed to a common goal, which is to promote the well-being of communities,” she emphasized.

The initiative, according to the same source, brings together various medical specialties, with emphasis on general and family medicine, psychology, nutrition, and other areas of expertise provided by invited specialists, including doctors linked to CVAMS, who regularly collaborate with the country’s health system.

“During the fair, screenings for hypertension and diabetes are being carried out, as well as cytology exams for women with access difficulties, with the support of the United Association in the Fight Against Cancer in interpreting the results,” she pointed out.

Florentina Lima e Lima also highlighted that the activity aims to facilitate access to specialized consultations, allowing for referrals and clinical guidance, on an island where not all specialties are permanently available.

The official also highlighted the role of health education, both individually and collectively, encouraging the population to adopt healthy habits, maintain regular medical check-ups, and correctly follow therapeutic guidelines.

“We usually hold some fairs in more distant communities, but this time we chose Ribeira Grande to ensure greater reach and concentration of specialties, facilitating access for the population,” she pointed out.

The delegate appealed for the active participation of citizens, emphasizing that initiatives of this kind allow not only the early diagnosis of diseases, but also the sharing of essential information for the promotion of a healthy life.
