Africa-Press – Cape verde. Oceano, a Luso-Cape Verdean and former captain of Sporting Clube de Portugal, who is in Cape Verde, was grateful for the affection he has received from all Cape Verdeans and said that it is with “enormous pleasure and joy” that is back in the country.

Visiting Cape Verde to participate in an exchange that runs until the 21st of this month, at the invitation of the Qatar Association, Oceano Cruz thanks everyone for their support, regardless of the club.

“I have been cherished by all Cape Verdeans here in Cape Verde, some from Benfica, others from Porto and Académica,” he said, quoted by Inforpress.

Yesterday, Oceano and the team he leads, from Velha Glória of Sporting Clube de Portugal, faced the veterans of Sporting da Praia, in a game that took place at Campo Sucupira in Achada Santo António. Game that was 1-0 with victory of the host team.

“We brought great players, but they are not very well known among the general public here in Cape Verde, the best known is me, but the most important thing is that these veterans have done an extraordinary job to try to pass the name of the staff”, he pointed out.

Oceano also recognized the effort that these veterans have made to bring Sporting’s name to Africa and other parts of Portugal, and defended that these athletes deserved greater support from Sporting.

A dream come true – Caló

The president of the Qatar Sport Clube Association, Carlos Morais, better known as Caló Iche, explained that the coming of Sporting de Portugal to Cape Verde is the fulfillment of a “desire and a dream”.

Likewise, it is a way of thanking all the athletes at Sporting and the neighborhood of Achada de Santo António for everything they have done for football in Praia and in Cape Verde.

The game also served to honor Isabel Lima, former president of Sporting da Praia, who died about three months ago, and to raise funds for former footballer Zequinha, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

New game on Thursday

The old glories of Sporting will have a second game on Thursday, 18 May, against the Veteranos da Praia team, at Estádio da Várzea, at 4 pm.

The Alvalade veterans’ team has also scheduled a series of meetings with the city council of Praia, with the highest sports and football authorities in particular, visits to the local and regional communities of Ribeira Grande and Tarrafal de Santiago and with the Portuguese Ambassador to Cape Verde, Paulo Lourenço.
