Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verde Women’s Organization (OMCV), through the ACOLHA project, will inaugurate, on the 28th, at 3 pm, a giant bench in the community of Angra, in the municipality of Tarrafal, on the island of Santiago, which is yet another Mandatory stop for tourists and people visiting this community.

According to a press release, the ACOLHA project aims to support tourist offers for rural families to improve their income and quality of life, “based on safety, information, protection of minors and environmental sustainability”.

The project is being implemented by OMCV and the Italian NGO “Persona Como Noi” and has the general objective of promoting sustainable rural tourism, promoting the safety of children in four communities in Tarrafal de Santiago.

The inauguration is attended by the Mayor of Tarrafal, José dos Reis Varela.

ACOLHA Project

The ACOLHA Project is being implemented in four communities of Tarrafal, namely the communities of Fazenda, Ponta Furna, Chão Bom and Trás os Montes.

It is a sustainable rural tourism project that, at the same time, promotes the safety of children in these four communities.

The main activities carried out are training and raising awareness in communities about protecting children in family tourism, maintenance and signaling of trails, training and qualification of beneficiaries on welcoming tourists and services related to tourism, carrying out rehabilitation works for houses for offer tourist services and create a marketing campaign to promote tourism.

Results

As a result, the ACOLHA Project intends to make communities aware of the opportunities and risks linked to rural tourism, through tools created with the support of local associations for the protection of younger children.

It also intends to function as a child protection and risk reduction mechanism, through systematized community involvement and disseminated at regional level for replication in cooperation with all project partners.
