Africa-Press – Cape verde. Environmentalist and university professor Guilherme Mascarenhas today asked for the Government’s approval to implement the project to preserve the Coral Cove in Laginha, stressing the “urgency” of the initiative due to the “advanced state of degradation” of the local
Speaking to Inforpress, Guilherme Mascarenhas said that “a large part” of the corals in Enseada da Laginha is affected by sediments, nutrients or algae, and that two of the 11 species existing there are at risk of disappearing.
According to the environmentalist, the degradation is “worrying” because “there are already dead corals”.
“I propose that the Government, through the Ministry of the Sea, gives me formal support. A letter formally saying that it authorises me to go ahead with the project. I look for a civil engineer or a team to implement the project, because I already have a draft, I have the support of the President of the Republic. And after that I’ll look for funding and when I have funding we will implement the project”, proposed the environmentalist.
For Guilherme Mascarenhas, the Government’s endorsement “is important” because if this partnership does not exist no one will be able to support the financing of the project.
