The intention was expressed by the Minister of State for Youth and Sports, Carlos Monteiro, on the sidelines of his visit to the Central da Praia jail with the aim of providing the executive with in-depth knowledge of the functioning of this prison institution, whose population is made up mainly of young people.
“It has several objectives, first of all to find out about conditions in general, such as this space here where drug addicts are treated, that is, it also goes beyond sports and see how we can collaborate”, said the official.
For Carlos Monteiro, taking into account that the prison population is mostly young and with a taste for physical activity, the executive intends to improve the practice of physical activities and sports in prison and this implies the rehabilitation of the infrastructures, which are completely degraded, and the acquisition of sports equipment.
