Africa-Press – Cape verde. The University of Cape Verde, in Praia, hosts, from the 26th to the 28th of next week, the XV Luso-Afro-Brazilian Congress of Social Sciences (CONLAB) and the IV Congress of the International Association of Social and Human Sciences in Portuguese Language (AILPcsh ).

Centered on the theme “Reinventing Democracy in a World of Insecurity: Challenges for the Social and Human Sciences”, the Congress program will include Conferences, Thematic Sessions, Round Tables (MRs), Working Groups (GTs), Oral Communications (COs), cultural activities, Network meetings and also the holding of a General Assembly to elect new members of the Association’s Governing Bodies, among other points of interest for strengthening the Association.

The basis of debate reflects a thematic convergence of academic interest and social relevance, especially in Portuguese-speaking countries, but also globally, where neoconservative waves, wars and conflicts, among others, present themselves as threats to democracy. Because, struggles and resistance have been experienced in several countries in defense of the Democratic Rule of Law.

According to the organization, celebrations towards Amílcar Cabral’s centenary are also part of the Congresses’ agenda, including film screenings, Cape Verdean music and dances, launch of publications, among others.

Visits to the interior of Santiago

In addition to the debates, tours will be organized on the island of Santiago, providing greater interaction with the country and recognition of the historical and cultural landmarks that unite Portuguese-speaking countries.

Cape Verde is the third African country to host CONLAB, over more than thirty years of existence, whose mission is to promote the itinerancy of the venues of its Congresses, most of which until now have been held in Brazil and Portugal. Angola and Mozambique are the African countries that have also hosted CONLAB.

The Solemn Opening ceremony will take place at the Convention Center, Palmarejo Grande Campus, on the 26th, at 9:30 am. It will feature interventions from the Rector of Uni-CV, José Arlindo Barreto; the Secretary of State for Higher Education, Eurídice Monteiro; the President of AILPcsh, Carlos Cardoso; and the Pro-Rector for the areas of Student Policy, Social and Extension, Fátima Fernandes, who will represent the CONLAB Organizing Committee.
