Africa-Press – Cape verde. UCID deputy António Monteiro urged the Government this Thursday to create internal conditions so that the country can rise to the challenges, remembering that the archipelago is “extremely vulnerable”.
The deputy from the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union spoke in Parliament, in the debate with the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, about the internal and external policy of the archipelago,
“We are in a world today that is extremely troubled, a world of war, a world in which actions concern the little ones and we are a small State ”, recalled the deputy.
For the deputy, Cape Verde is a “ highly vulnerable” state and, consequently, must organize itself internally so that national defense issues can be defined.
“ Cape Verde must seek to have an international attitude of tranquility, of conversation with all countries around the world, but at the same time, create the internal conditions so that we can, when called upon, rise to the challenges ”, he concluded
The former UCID leader stressed that it is necessary to think “ strongly about national resilience ” and the creation of resources and capabilities that can help the country to be properly prepared.
He advised thinking that “ Cape Verde, as a country with a large exclusive economic zone, must have the tools so that, when requested, it can defend itself” , recognizing that in this sense there is still “ a long way to go ”.
Hence the deputy said he hopes that during the debate, the Government will consider all the “ inputs given by parliamentary subjects and mainly by the opposition ”, so that together they can create a plan that provides guarantees to all Cape Verdeans.
