Africa-Press – Cape verde. The results released today by the National Statistics Institute (INE) reveal that the economic climate indicator remained above the series average in the fourth quarter of 2024. The value obtained exceeded that of the same period in 2023, showing a favorable context for the national economy.
According to the IBGE, in relation to the previous quarter, the climate indicator reversed the upward trend, that is, the pace of economic growth fell in relation to the 3rd quarter of 2024. The positive performance of the indicator reflects the synthesis of the appreciations of businesspeople in the sectors of commerce in establishment, tourism, construction, and transport and auxiliary transport services. However, some areas presented challenges, such as the manufacturing industry and trade fairs.
The confidence indicator revealed that in Established Trade there was a positive evolution in relation to the same period in 2023, driven by the improvement in the activity outlook. Despite the reversal of the upward trend seen in the previous quarter, the situation remains favorable, with the indicator above the series average.
The tourism sector, according to the IBGE, recorded a reduction in the confidence indicator compared to the same quarter of the previous year, although it maintained the upward trend of the 3rd quarter of 2024. The indicator remained above the series average, confirming a favorable outlook. Among the main challenges faced by companies in the sector are the difficulty in finding qualified personnel and insufficient demand.
The construction sector confidence indicator performed positively compared to the same quarter of 2023, driven by the variables order book, activity outlook and employment outlook. Despite the favorable scenario, businesspeople pointed out high interest rates, workforce absenteeism and insufficient supply capacity as restrictions, in addition to difficulties in accessing bank credit.
The results indicate that the confidence indicator had a downward trend in the fourth quarter of 2024, in fair trade, even though it registered a positive evolution in relation to the same period last year. Despite this, the situation in the sector is considered unfavorable, remaining below the series average.
In the Manufacturing Industry, there was a reduction in the confidence indicator compared to the same period in 2023, placing it in an unfavorable context. The main challenges highlighted by businesspeople include excessive state regulations, frequent mechanical failures in equipment, lack of raw materials and financial difficulties.
The confidence indicator recorded an increase in the Transport and Auxiliary Transport Services sector compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, consolidating a favorable situation for the sector. However, companies reported challenges such as competition, difficulty in finding qualified labor and state regulations that negatively impacted their activity.
The IBGE results confirm that, despite the slowdown in economic growth compared to the previous quarter, the general situation remains favorable for the national economy, with sectors such as construction, tourism and transportation maintaining positive performance.
