Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verdean artist Tikai is being honored by the Cape Verde Cinema and Audiovisual Association (ACACV), a distinction he receives with a sense of responsibility and which marks the “growing recognition” of his 30-year career.
This information was released today to Inforpress by the actor, whose career is marked by plays and film productions made “often with few resources” technical and human.
“Seeing my work done in a simple way now being recognized by ACACV is very gratifying and gives me even more strength and responsibility to continue in this area,” he said.
Tikai recalled that in 2023 he was also honored by the Ministry of Culture with the Second Degree Medal of Merit, which he considers equally “significant”. However, he stressed that his greatest recognition has always come from the public.
“I have performed 20 times in Parque 05 de Julho alone. I have performed 17 times in activities on the island of Santiago. Thousands of people have seen my shows. The people of Cape Verde have always supported me,” he emphasized.
During the ACACV tribute ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, the 16th, at the Ildo Lobo Cultural Palace, the film “Nha Fia”, recorded in 2009, in Portugal, and based on a play created in 1994, will also be shown.
“Even though I know that theater doesn’t always get the attention it deserves, when I released that film there was an explosion of views. It opened doors for feature and short films in Cape Verde,” explained Tikai.
He also highlighted that it was through this film that he became known by the artistic name he carries today. Tikai, an expression that means “drink until you drop”, refers to the central theme of the work “Nha Fia”, which mainly addresses the problem of alcoholism.
“This is an important social problem that needs to be debated, and the film is a way of drawing attention to its causes and consequences,” he stressed.
The artist is currently preparing a national tour with the show “Boita i Raboita des Mundo”, released in 2022 and available on YouTube in 2024, with more than a million views in less than six months.
The play is being performed live in several cities across the country, with plans to reach the islands of Maio, Boa Vista, Fogo, Brava and Sal by the end of the year, and, in the future, Santo Antão, São Vicente and São Nicolau.
Tikai also revealed that he is planning to film a new movie in 2026, with the location already defined in Cidade Velha, promising yet another cinematographic work that intends to mark the national cultural scene.
ACACV celebrates 13 years on March 31st and has been paying tribute to groups and artists in the area.
