Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Police detained 93 individuals in the last 90 days in the city of Praia, as part of several crime prevention and combat operations carried out by the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigation. This information was released by the police force itself, which reports that 91 of the arrests were made in flagrante delicto and two in compliance with court orders.
According to the National Police, those detained include 89 men and four women, aged between 15 and 56 years old. The suspects are allegedly involved in various types of crime, notably robbery in public, aggravated theft, possession of firearms and ammunition, drug possession, possession of bladed weapons, sexual assault, gender-based violence, suspected homicide, assault, public fights, and illegal driving.
The corporation emphasizes that among the individuals detained are suspects linked to recently registered theft and robbery crimes, particularly in the areas of Pensamento, Paiol, Palmarejo, and Plateau, areas that have experienced a higher incidence of crime in recent months.
During the operations, the National Police also seized a significant quantity of products and objects of illicit origin. Among the seized material were 6,455 grams of cocaine and 55,869 grams of cannabis, as well as 19 firearms (10 conventional and nine homemade), 37 rounds of ammunition, and 15 bladed weapons. Several cars, motorcycles, bicycles, televisions, mobile phones, and other goods were also seized.
Following the arrests, all suspects were presented to the court for their first judicial interrogation. As a result, pre-trial detention was ordered for 28 individuals. Another 29 were subjected to the obligation of periodic reporting to the police authorities, 27 were subjected to summary trial, and six were referred to the instruction phase. Two detainees benefited from a release order, and one was prohibited from contacting the victim.
