Africa-Press – Cape verde. Boavista da Praia is the first semi-finalist of the national football championship, after beating Ultramarina 3-0, in a game corresponding to the fifth round, held at the Várzea Stadium.
The goals only happened in the second half and curiously by three players who came off the bench.
Right-back Ilídio, striker Makito and midfielder Chibaca scored the goals that sealed the team’s passage to the semi-finals of the top competition in national football.
After this victory, the fourth in a row, Boavista da Praia now leads the competition with 12 points, while Ultramarina is left with four points and in seventh place.
At the end of the match, the checkered coach, Edvaldo Cardoso, said that, despite the goals happening in the second half, it was a very controlled game and that the victory was deserved.
“We wanted to say goodbye to our fans with a victory, as it is the last home game of the regular season”, said Edvaldo Cardoso, stressing that the objective is to finish in first place.
“Next week we will face Palmeiras with the same commitment. We will be in the lead and we want to maintain that position”, said the helmsman, looking ahead to next week’s game against the champions of the island of Sal.
In turn, Adir Cruz, Ultramarina’s coach, praised the performance of his players and congratulated the opposing team for the victory and consequent passage to the next phase.
“Now it’s time to work towards the next game and finish the competition with a good image,” said Adir Cruz.
In the next round, the sixth and last of the regular phase, Boavista da Praia travels to the island of Sal to play against Palmeira. Ultramarina welcomes the Sanjoanenses.
The national football championship has the participation of ten teams, the eight regional champions plus Boavista da Praia (defending champion) and Académica da Praia, as runner-up from Santiago Sul.
The current season, 2024/2025, is being played in a new format, as the group stage is being dropped, and will now be played in the new UEFA Champions League format.
The sports regions of Maio and Brava did not hold official competitions, so they do not participate in the national championship.
Therefore, the regional champions plus Boavista da Praia, the defending champions, are in a single group and each team plays six games, with six opponents, that is, three as home team and three as away team.
The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals of the competition, the final of which is scheduled for June 21st, at the Adérito Sena Stadium, in São Vicente.
