Africa-Press – Cape verde. A group of drummers from São Nicolau, who have been in Santa Catarina (Santiago) since May 11th for a cultural exchange, held a Kola San Jon parade this Thursday in the central square of Assomada.
In an interview with Inforpress, the councilor for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Santa Catarina Chamber, Adilson Tavares, informed that this cultural exchange follows on from the one held in São Nicolau, in March, by batuco and tabanca groups from Santa Catarina.
As he recalled, the group from Sanicolau, which will be in Santa Catarina until Saturday, the 17th, in addition to the parade this Thursday, has already visited several tourist attractions, and even some institutions and schools in the municipality to talk about Kola San Jon.
“We intend to bring all cultural manifestations to the city center of Assomada, and today we start with Kola San Jon de São Nicolau, and in the next ones with batuco and tabanca”, indicated the mayor.
According to this person in charge, batuco and tabanca, intangible cultural heritage of Cape Verde, have been gaining strength outside the city of Assomada.
On that occasion, he announced that another exchange had been agreed for “in the near future”, this time in terms of sports, with an emphasis on handball and football.
On Saturday, the 17th, the group of drummers from São Nicolau will go to the municipality of São Miguel, to promote another Kolá San Jon parade through the streets of the Ponta Verde neighborhood, which has São João Batista as its patron saint.
