May: Rely Brito Guarantees Cordial Relationship with SDTIBM in Defense of the Island'S Interests

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The mayor of Maio, Rely Brito, assured on Saturday that the relationship with the Tourism Development Society of the Islands of Boa Vista and Maio (SDTIBM) is cordial.

The statement comes after voting against the election of Miguel Rosa as president of SDTIBM.

Miguel Rosa was mayor from Maio until 2024, having been defeated by Rely Brito in the last municipal elections.

Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the celebrations of National Fishmongers’ Day, Rely Brito reinforced that, despite differences, the relationship with SDTIBM has been marked by institutional cordiality, highlighting that both parties are committed to defending the island’s interests.

“We are working with cordiality and a sense of responsibility. The most important thing is that both institutions focus on the development of Maio and improving the quality of life of our population,” said the mayor.

The two entities have already held a first working meeting, in which topics such as improving air and sea connectivity, expanding the airport, professional training for young people and creating conditions to attract private investment were discussed.

“We know that there is a project to build an international airport. Our role, as a municipality, is to talk to the Government and SDTIBM to create a favorable environment for the implementation of this project, which is essential to boost the tourism that we all want for May,” he highlighted.

Rely Brito criticized the island’s recurring air and sea connection problems, which, according to him, have “seriously” affected tourism and even the transportation of patients in emergency situations.

“The City Hall is open to dialogue so that, together, we can find solutions that guarantee regular and safe connectivity. Only then will Maio be able to truly establish itself as an island with a vocation for tourism,” he concluded.
