Africa-Press – Cape verde. The remodeling and modernization of the passenger terminal and the runway lighting at S. Filipe Airfield will be completed soon, and its inauguration is scheduled for September, Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva announced today during the State of the Nation debate in the National Assembly.
“Regarding airport infrastructure, the remodeling and modernization of the passenger terminal and the runway lighting at S. Filipe Airfield will be completed soon; we will inaugurate it in September,” stated the Prime Minister.
Also on the topic of airport infrastructure, Ulisses Correia e Silva announced that the runway lighting, expansion, and remodeling of Aristides Pereira Airport in Boavista are guaranteed and will happen, and he guaranteed that the construction of Santo Antão Airport in Porto Novo will move forward.
Regarding ports, the minister indicated that large-scale interventions are underway, namely the expansion of the Port of Palmeira, in Sal, the expansion and adaptation of the Porto Novo seaport to accommodate cruise ships and other large vessels, and the expansion of the Porto Grande do Mindelo port for transshipment operations.
He also said that the rehabilitation and modernization of CABNAVE and the construction of maritime terminals are part of the investment package, with an impact on the blue economy.
Regarding inter-island transport, he acknowledged that it has been going through difficult times, but affirmed that it has been assured.
“Improved connectivity will be reinforced with the new fleet of aircraft currently under construction and with the introduction of new vessels, also with processes underway,” he indicated.
Regarding the national airline, he highlighted the progress made in recent years.
“TACV was saved from death, recovered, stabilized, and is operating international flights.”
Ulisses Correia e Silva also mentioned the growing interest of low-cost airlines in operating in the country, attributing this movement to the positive development of tourism.
“Low-cost airlines are discovering Cape Verde thanks to the dynamic growth of tourism, Cape Verde’s strong positioning as an attractive and safe destination, and the trust in the partnership established with the concession for airport management,” he stated.
Later, the Minister of Tourism and Transport, José Sá Nogueira, said that there are currently more than 30 low-cost flights per week and that by the end of the year there will be more than 80 weekly flights.
