Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government presented this Thursday, the 21st, the general guidelines and program for the Regional Conference on Information Integrity in West Africa and the Sahel, which will take place from September 3rd to 5th in Praia.
The presentation was given by the Deputy Secretary of State to the Prime Minister, Lourenço Lopes, and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Miryan Vieira, who chairs the Organizing Committee of the event. The International Conference is a UNESCO initiative in partnership with the Government.
According to the government officials, the Regional Conference on Information Integrity will specifically seek to define a strategic framework and action plan for information integrity, aligned with international and continental standards and strategies, adapted to the context of West Africa and the Sahel, and based on UNESCO guidelines and recommendations.
“Develop a Praia Action Plan for information integrity, which aims to improve access to information, strengthen resilience and skills among populations to better engage with the information ecosystem, and enhance synergies and partnerships with various stakeholders to safeguard and promote information integrity,” he notes.
The conference will take place over three days and will be structured into two main moments: discussions between technicians and experts and the Ministerial Segment.
The target audience for the conference is the ministries responsible for communication, education, and information technology, academics and experts, media regulatory and self-regulatory bodies, policymakers, media outlets, fact-checkers, and civil society organizations.
The conference was attended by ministers from various countries and high-ranking UN representatives, senior officials from UNESCO, and partner countries of this conference.
Various plenary sessions and side events will also be held to discuss various topics: defining a strategic framework for information integrity; risks and threats to information integrity; governance of digital platforms and the use of new technologies; access to information; development of skills and media and information literacy; and strengthening synergies for information integrity.
