Africa-Press – Cape verde. A study on the profile of teachers at Agrupamento I and Boa Vista Secondary School presented data that contradicted the perception of unmotivated teachers, revealing that only 10.9 percent read and understood the PCFR.
The survey, which included a participatory sample of 55 teachers, addressed questions about demographics, training, management, and work. It served as the basis for an internal presentation and revealed that, in fact, the majority of teachers, 49.1%, feel motivated by their work, despite some persistent challenges.
In a statement to Inforpress, principal Domingos Lobo expressed satisfaction with the results.
“Listening to the complaints in the schoolyard, we perceived that practically 80% of teachers were unmotivated, but according to the data we presented, the opposite is true,” he stated.
The survey also identified the main causes of demotivation, with student misbehavior being the most significant factor. Issues related to precarious contracts and late payments were also highlighted.
According to Principal Domingos Lobo, one of the most concerning points revealed by the study is that a “significant percentage” of teachers did not read or understand the Career, Function, and Remuneration Plan (PCFR), even though the document is considered a “very relevant tool for informing teachers.”
“The most concerning issue is those who read it and didn’t understand anything. This concerns us, and now the school administration will try to clarify the instrument on a case-by-case basis,” stated the Principal.
He also emphasized that this lack of understanding can create gaps in the implementation of the pedagogical process.
Furthermore, the inclusion of a question about sexual orientation in the questionnaire raised some questions, but Director Lobo justified it as an essential tool for better understanding the academic community, promoting respect, and knowing how to handle sensitive situations, “so as not to hurt or harm someone who has a different sexual orientation.”
The ESBV board views the profile survey as a crucial tool for more informed and strategic management, allowing the school to more effectively address challenges and foster a more harmonious learning environment.
