Africa-Press – Cape verde. The United States Ambassador to Cape Verde, Jennifer Adams, said Tuesday that she was “impressed by the creativity and forward-thinking spirit” of those responsible for the Cape Verde Red Cross (CVCV).

“It seems they have many ideas about priority actions to be developed in the communities, how to respond and organize to respond to disasters and community development needs,” the diplomat told the press.

Jennifer Adams visited the CVCV today to learn about some of the organization’s structures and activities, as well as learn about the challenges and prospects for cooperation.

The US Ambassador, who visited the headquarters, the warehouse, the Day Center, and the analytical laboratory, highlighted financial sustainability and the way in which various asset mechanisms are used, among other aspects, as the organization’s maximum impact.

When asked about her country’s support for São Vicente, Jennifer Adams emphasized that her country’s commitment to the CVCV is “irreversible” both in Cape Verde and in other countries.

“We are working and planning together to be better prepared in the event of further disasters, so that local communities have what they need to respond,” she explained.

Regarding the actions to be developed and presented by the Red Cross, the diplomat expressed the US’s intention to analyze the strategic plan the organization is preparing and determine how to support it.

“We are committed to receiving, reading, analyzing, and then deciding where the United States, the Government, and the International Red Cross can do their best to help the CVCV,” she concluded.

Today’s meeting also served as an opportunity for the Cape Verde Red Cross to express its “deep gratitude” to the United States of America, one of the donors that promptly responded to the appeal for support in the reconstruction of the islands most affected by the August 11 storm: São Vicente, São Nicolau, and Santo Antão.
