Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Adventist Development, Relief and Assistance Agency (ADRA) carried out a distribution of donations this Sunday in Sal Rei, destined for various non-profit institutions on the island of Boa Vista.
The material destined for Boa Vista is part of a 40-foot container shipment of humanitarian aid, which arrived from Hong Kong and is being distributed to the various islands of Cape Verde.
In Boa Vista, the agency delivered hospital equipment, teaching materials for daycare centers and high schools, diapers and other items for senior centers, as well as books and computers for the municipal library and youth centers.
Pastor and ADRA representative in Cape Verde, Buabin Payne Saah, emphasized that the organization, which has existed for 42 years and is present in 120 countries, has been operating in the country for almost four years, focusing on humanitarian development.
“We are very happy to come to Boa Vista. In June and July, ADRA will once again have a larger project in Cape Verde,” announced the representative, who requested the pooling of resources for future interventions at the national level.
Boa Vista councilwoman Nádia Santos, whose institution received aid, stated that the assistance arrives at an opportune moment, as essential resources, such as the stock of diapers for the senior center, were about to run out.
“Everything we received is extremely useful. Our library needed computers for student research, and our six municipal gardens will now be equipped with this equipment,” said the councilwoman, affirming that ADRA’s support allows the municipality to better respond to the community’s needs.
Elsa Vieira, a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Boa Vista (IASD-BV), detailed that the distributions in Boa Vista include, for example, five hospital beds, stretchers for the hospital, materials for nautical sports, computer equipment for youth spaces, and various items for the senior center, such as sheets and pillows.
The action was supported by a group of volunteers from IASD-BV who, according to the organizers, work on the front lines supporting families in vulnerable situations and in natural disaster situations.
