Government and WHO Sign $2.4 Million Work Plan

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) in Cape Verde are today signing a joint Work Plan for the period 2026–2027, budgeted at approximately US$2.4 million, focusing on strengthening the national health system and improving the quality of services.

According to a government statement, this is the first biennial plan framed within the WHO’s 14th General Programme of Work for the period 2025–2028, approved during the 77th World Health Assembly, held in May 2024.

The document’s main objective is to ensure compliance with the WHO’s principle of transparency in planning and budgeting activities, while simultaneously defining priority areas of intervention in the health sector, focusing on sustainable development, structured financing, and well-defined monitoring mechanisms.

The plan constitutes a management tool that will allow for the strengthening of actions considered priorities, particularly in the areas of health determinants, the approach to primary care, as well as the reinforcement of the system’s essential capacities to guarantee universal health coverage. Among the objectives, the improvement of equity and quality of services, the preparation of the country for emerging health risks, and the strengthening of the leadership of the National Health Service stand out.

The ceremony will be presided over by the Minister of Health, Jorge Figueiredo, and will take place at 3 pm.
