Africa-Press – Cape verde. Everything is ready for the celebration of Santo António das Pombas, guaranteed the mayor of Paul, António Aleixo. The same hopes that the activities exceed the expectations of the people of São Paulo, even in financial difficulties.

António Aleixo Martins, who was speaking to Inforpess, considered that, although the pilgrimage festivities have resumed throughout the country, the economic factor is still “not very favourable”.

Therefore, according to the mayor, even if one wants to “idealize better activities”, it is not possible due to the economic factor.

“We are making an effort to boost the economy in the municipality, but it is not being easy, in any case, the municipality has programmed a wide range of activities to be developed, according to what is possible in financial terms”, he stressed.

high expectations

António Aleixo said that the people of São Paulo have “high expectations”, similar to what has been done in other municipalities, so he guaranteed that a program was developed that “covers several aspects” such as cultural, recreational, sports, among others. .

The mayor of Paul explained that one of the highlights of the Santo António das Pombas festival is the “famous” horse race, and also the Cape Verdean nightlife, as, in his opinion, it moves people from all over the island.

“We will do the famous horse race, although it is a great challenge at the moment, considering the financial effort that we will have to make, as we have fewer partnerships”, he pointed out.

Pilgrimage

Also, according to the same source, the program includes the pilgrimage of the image of Santo António de Cabo da Ribeira to the church in the city of Pombas.

António Aleixo stressed that the resumption of the feast of the patron saint of Paul is still “as far as possible”, but guaranteed that the city council will not “disappoint”, as, according to him, they are “striving” to “dignify” the feast of Santo António das Pombas.
